Changing an old tattoo

I am looking for a tattoo artist in the Los Angeles area (I am in San Fernando Valley) that can change my old tattoo (a small rose with my ex's name) into an angel instead. The tatoo is on the back of my shoulder and has been retouched with colors once already. The original was made in 1992, the touchup was in '97. What is the best way to do this? Take pictures of the tattoo and get an artist to draw suggestions first? Also, what would give best results; using multiple colors again, or just going black or white? I would like to see samples of tattoo's that you have changed before.

    Hey Heidi,

I've never had any touch up work done but I've seen alot of before and after examples.

Defiantely have a photograph taken and have the artist draw his/her conception over it.

Colored inks are getting so intense these days, they really show up on the skin! But I guess color vs b/W would be personal choice.

may be able to put you in tough with artists in your area.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Good luck,

        Awesome!

        Have fun redesigning your tat!

If you have a chance to get to a convention, they're amazing.

Alot of Art to take in, but you get to see so many cool tatoos!

        Plus they have cool entertainment!

          Oh..something I wanted to share.

When I was goin in to get my tatoo, Eric Eaton and I had a consultation of what I wanted. A week later he had done research, gone to the library and had a sketch for me to look at.

I was really impressed that he took the time to go to the library.

I liked what he had, but it went through a few design changes before I went under the needle.

It was really good to experience my first tatoo with someone who was really intot making sure I had what i liked.
